Diamox (acetazolamide) is a prescription medicine from the group called sulfa drugs. It’s most commonly used to treat fluid retention, epilepsy, glaucoma and mountain sickness. Although it is usually well tolerated you may have some of the side effects, such as loss of appetite, frequent urination, diarrhea, vomiting and tingling in the ears. Do not combine this drug with high doses of aspirin as it may lead to death. If you happened to miss a dose do not take a double dose. You can just skip the dose missed and go back to your usual dosing schedule.

Some rare and serious side effects of this medicine can include bruises, fever and sore throat. These symptoms should be reported to your health care provider as soon as possible as they may mean your dose requires an adjustment. Make sure you follow all of your doctor’s recommendations and keep all the appointments for your condition to be closely monitored. Do not start taking any new medicines without consulting your health care provider to prevent drug interactions.
